Le Radian

Le Radian has 4 main activities that seek to rewrite the relation that is harmed when a minor commits an “act of delinquency”: mediation, Restorative Group Consultation, the educational public benefit service and the awareness module addressing the consequences of the performed acts and their impact on the victims.
These four activities give young offenders the opportunity to take responsibility and repair the harm done by their actions.
Two of these actions (mediation and Restorative Group Consultation) are also addressing victims. Mediation and Restorative Group Consultation give the victim the opportunity to be heard and recognised and to achieve relational and/or material reparation.
These missions are entrusted by youth judges or prosecutors.
The Radian is a service approved and subsidised by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.  Contact

Diana Unwin Chair in Restorative Justice – Victoria University of Wellington

Located in Aotearoa New Zealand’s capital city, the Diana Unwin Chair in Restorative Justice serves as a focus for collaborative, interdisciplinary research and teaching on restorative justice theory and practice, both within the justice sector and beyond. Established in 2014 as a result of a partnership between several public sector agencies, a private trust, and Victoria University of Wellington, the DU Chair is charged with increasing the reach and quality of restorative interventions across civil society in an academically credible and practice-focused way.
The holder of the Chair, Professor Chris Marshall, provides academic and professional leadership to a team of researchers and practice experts. The international make-up of the team is reflective of the connections the DU Chair seeks to foster with its global neighbours, through hosting academic and practice experts and by establishing links with groups like the European Forum for Restorative Justice. As we seek to build on New Zealand’s reputation in the restorative justice community, we look forward to learning from and contributing to this burgeoning social movement. Contact: Tom Noakes-Duncan

Frontis – Lower Silesia Association of Probation Officers

The Lower Silesian Association of Probation Officers FRONTIS was established in 2010 as a response to the specific need to create a space free of service dependencies and procedures, a place where we could undertake joint projects, improve our professional workshop and build effective work tools. We are probation officers who want to co-create civil society, we work
with people at risk of marginalisation and social exclusion on a daily basis. We try to act in the spirit of the strategy of modernising the area of justice in Poland for the years 2014-2020, in which we read, among others: “Examples of active inclusion of the court in the functioning of the local community argue that the justice system works for society and citizens – resolves conflicts and disputes, administers justice, and at the same time is open to education of every generation.” We are oriented to the needs of citizens, especially the weakest, threatened by violence, marginalisation and social exclusion. We support local public security systems, we practice a legal education. We care about the positive image of the Probation Officers in Poland and the improvement of citizens’; trust in the courts. Membership in the EFRJ gives us a chance to gain new knowledge and experience that will allow us to improve our organisation’s activities in a spirit of restorative justice. contact: Honorata Czajkowska

SPAIN

Federación Española Justica Restaurativa

The Spanish Federation of Restorative Justice emerges with a double objective. The first, the dissemination of restorative justice in the penal and penitentiary field in Spain. Second, in the need, to coordinate at the beginning, the opportunities in the matter of penal mediation.
In these years of the federation and in the absence still of a regulatory framework, the mechanisms of resolution of the criminal matter have been articulated with the agreements with the General Council of the Judiciary, Prosecutor’s Office, Superior Courts of Justice, some City Councils, such as Madrid, regional governments (such as the Basque Government, Government of Navarre and Government of Aragon), and the General Secretary of Penitentiary Institutions.
The entities that are part of the Federation have managed to consolidate multiple Restorative Justice projects. The added value of the Federation lies in the coordination and support of a network of entities all working on the axis of restorative justice. At present, the following entities are part of the federation: Asociación ADOSTEN, Asociación Navarra de Mediación (ANAME), Asociación Andaluza de Mediación (AMEDI), Asociación APOYO, Asociación ¿hablamos?, Asociación de Mediación para la Pacificación de Conflictos (AMPC), Asociación para la Gestión Profesional de Soluciones-Solucion@, Prison Fellowship of Spain (CONCAES), Asociación Centro Universitario para la Transformación de Conflictos (GEUZ) and Fundación Berriztu.

Soluciones a Conflictos – Institución de Mediación del Colegio Oficial de Psicólogos de Madrid

Mediation Institution “Solutions to Conflicts”, from the Professional Association of Psychologists of Madrid, was created in 2012 in Madrid (Spain), aimed to promote, communicate, disseminate and develop mediation as an alternative and complementary method of conflict resolution, and to support and promote the professional practice of mediator psychologists in both public and private environments, believing that Psychologists, due to their training and experience, are especially skilled to act as mediators in conflicts in which, often, great emotional burden lies behind.
Since 2016, an Intrajudicial Mediation Programme in the courts of Madrid has been running, with goals aimed to the judicial system (bringing a new approach and new tools related to restorative justice), the citizens (bringing justice close, and the perceived usefulness of it) and affected parts, delivering a satisfying method to the victims and reinforcing the educational value of verdicts, consisting of a criminal mediation service offered by trained psychologists.
We also offer mediation services in different fields (family, business and organizations, community, health and education) and specialized and continuous training for professionals. By joining the EFRJ we want to be in touch with institutions and experts that work on Restorative Justice, to share knowledge and collaborate on common projects. Restorative Now

Restorative Now is a training and culture-change organisation, focusing upon the implementation of sustainable restorative practice across a variety of settings. We dedicate a specialised skills-training emphasis to the Art of Engagement, thus incentivising the inclusion of all parties. Restorative Now works internationally across Europe, South East Asia and
Australasia, within the criminal justice, education, police, social work, housing and community agency sectors. Recent innovative work has focused upon the application of restorative practice to address young peoples’ harmful sexual behaviour and violent behaviour in the home; the launch of a Restorative Clinic model within the Youth Justice setting, to focus upon the child-parent/significant adult relationship, in every occasion of harmful behaviour; an initial programme of training and implementation of Restorative Practice in Maternity Services within a London Teaching Hospital; and the restorative addressing of historical sexual-abuse issues within religious communities. The driving vision of the organisation is the universal applicability of Restorative Practice, allowing for a move beyond a binary focus on right and wrong doing, to one of the commonality of human need and dignity. Restorative Now has 30 years’ experience in the restorative practice field, with accredited Trainer and Practitioner status with the Restorative Justice Council UK. Contact: Janine Carroll

Community Justice Scotland

Established in April 2017, Community Justice Scotland is responsible for promoting world-leading standards of community justice across Scotland. We provide training, support and leadership and identify expertise, promote innovation and drive change. We will change the conversation about justice and prevention of offending. Our aim is for a smarter, more effective justice system and our ambition is to reduce victims of crime, reduce offending and improve the lives of everyone.
Community Justice Scotland (CJS) have been supportive of a stronger position for restorative approaches in the justice system from our inception. We are active members of the Scottish Restorative Justice Forum and the Scottish Restorative Justice Practitioners network. Also, Community Justice Scotland, in partnership with academia and the Scottish Government, have been invited to take part in the international Restorative Justice Strategies For Change Project alongside nine other European countries. This work ties in with the European Forum for Restorative Justice.
We wanted to join the European Forum to make links with our colleagues in Europe and to hear about good practice. We also want to learn about the different approaches to Restorative Justice taken in other European countries. Contact: Gael Cochrane

Why me? Victims for Restorative Justice

Why me? are a registered charity fighting for victims of crime to have access to Restorative Justice across England and Wales.
We have our own Restorative Justice service which facilitates meetings between victims and offenders. We also work with victims, offenders, police forces, prisons, probation services and other criminal justice organisations to improve access to Restorative Justice. We are working on a number of campaigns to increase understanding of best practice, and to persuade the UK Government to ensure that Restorative Justice is more widely used. We are also running three projects on the use of Restorative Justice with hate crime, covering different geographical areas and different types of hate crime.
The UK Victims Code says that all victims are entitled to information about Restorative Justice. But only 7.5% of victims with a known offender recall being given this information. That is a problem which we are working to solve, to improve the lives of victims in the UK.
Our motivations for joining the EFRJ are to learn from other Restorative Justice organisations, and to build fruitful Europe-wide partnerships on projects relevant to our mandate.
