EFRJ Board member in Brazil

13/12/2018

Our new Board member, Katerina Soulou, elected during the last AGM in Tirana, is currently a visiting scholar at La Salle University in Canoas, Brazil. Already in November Katerina gave a lecture at the same University (read more here).
On 6 December, Katerina was invited by Prof. Renata Almeida da Costa to present her doctoral research to the students of the Master class of Sociology of Law. The title of her presentation was: “The restorative response to crime as a new possibility of criminal policies: comparative perspectives between France and Brazil”.  After the lecture they watched the movie “Re-storying a Greek tragedy: Electra meets Clytemnestra”, based on a theatre play by the Theater of Changes in Greece, launched during the RJ Week 2018. The students knew already about RJ because they followed classes with EFRJ member Prof. Daniel Achutti, who supervises Katerina’s research in Brazil, and they were full of questions! See photos below.
On 13 December Katerina will give another presentation to the same class. This time the focus will be on RJ and terrorism: she will present the Italian and Basque experiences and screen the second movie of the Theater of Changes: “Re-storying a terrorist tragedy: The encounter”.
During her stay, Katerina will also visit the School of Magistrates in Porto Alegre, to meet mediators that work on RJ with juveniles. Hopefully she will also meet Dominic Barter.
