VMSZ is organising a seminar on mediation in criminal law, a promising judicial restorative modality, entitled ‘Mediation in Strafzaken: de praktijk na 4 jaar’ (mediation in penal matters: state of affairs after 4 years) on 20 November in The Hague, just 100mts away from the Dutch Parliament.
In brief: Several promising pilots, starting in 2010, lead to the implementation of mediation in criminal matters throughout The Netherlands (2017). Prosecutors and judges refer criminal cases to mediation via court-annexed mediation offices. With a succes rate of 75% of the cases that have started, mediation in criminal cases has been embraced by victims, defendants as well as the judicial system the judicial system.
The VMSZ demonstrates the practice to MP’s and others who endorse the modality that is clearly an offspring of the world-wide restorative justice movement. RSVP: [email protected]
