Also the University of the Basque Country (Spain), through its Restorative Justice Theory & Practice Lab, at the Basque Institute of Criminology, is celebrating the international RJ Week 2019!
From the 15-27 November, the individual member of the EFRJ Gema Varona organizes an exhibition entitled “Postcards to prevent suicide: Restorative justice insights”.
The exhibition will present the joint work by criminologist Leire Izaguirre and illustrator, Jesús Manuel García, on the taboo topic of suicide, particularly by young people. Paintings in watercolours, together with a selection of significant objects, will be exhibited in order to invite the visitor to reflect and be interpellated with regard to prevention and reparation of a trauma that it is not only a personal, family or interpersonal problem, but a social and public health issue for survivors and society as a whole. Even though suicide is not a crime, it is a traumatic event (in some cases committed by previously victimized persons) where secondary harm is produced if no restorative dialogue between survivors and society is promoted. This exhibition aims to promote that dialogue.
